Transitioning from Coachee to Coach

Career changes are driven by many factors, some by external influence or circumstance (extrinsic), some by design or intent (intrinsic), and some by a combination of the two. Irrespective of the cause, this can be quite daunting for the person making the change and may lead to them seeking support, advice, and guidance. For example, if the person making the career change wants to become a coach, there is no better opportunity for them to understand what that role entails than by seeking a coach, endeavouring to gain practical expertise and insights, as well as understanding the empirical, evidence-based techniques to support them as they transition into a coaching role. This paper looks at one such person, whom we will call Eric, and follows the latter part of his career, focusing primarily on his transition into a coaching role.
